Digital apprenticeship to help meet employers’ needs

Employment opportunities for young people in Peterborough will be increased as a result of Peterborough Regional College signing up to deliver an apprenticeship scheme.

The Digital Youth Academy's (DYA) Social Digital Apprenticeship will teach students to use their digital and social media skills to meet the needs of today's business. The scheme will also enable students to harness their understanding of social digital media to build a sustainable career.

The DYA is already working in partnership with Middlesbrough and North Hertfordshire colleges, and Penny Power, founder of the DYA, said: "We are very proud to be able to offer the students of Peterborough Regional College our Social Digital Apprenticeship, and improve their chances of building a career.

"Through harnessing the ability of many young people to use social digital media, the DYA will tailor those skills and combine them with business acumen in order to find sustainable employment."

Angela Joyce, principal at Peterborough Regional College, added: "We are very excited to be working with The Digital Youth Academy. Their new approach to apprenticeships and appreciation for the needs of UK businesses will better the chances of our students building long, sustainable careers, and will give them valuable business experience and a qualification worthy of their CVs.  We already have a number of employers interested in employing a DYA apprentice.

"DYA's Board have an outstanding track record in the employability sector, and we fully believe the experience they bring to the apprenticeship will be hugely beneficial to the education of Peterborough Regional College students, and will add value to the range of excellent educational provisions we already have in place."
